That about sums up our Ladies Night!! We had a blast Tuesday night. If you missed it you missed some great food, WONDERFUL desserts, and some good laughs!!!

Also, if you would be interested in doing a game night on a more regular basis, give us your ideas about what nights work best for you (week night or weekend) and how often you would want to go to a game night.

Our next Ladies Night will be on May 7. We will be doing a clothing exchange. More details to come, but be sure to be saving up clothes - yours, your children's, your husband's, any that you can find - that you want to exchange. It will be lots of fun and very helpful in many ways!!

Just a reminder to let you know Valentine's day is coming up!!!! Our banquet will be held on Valentine's Day this year. It will be held at the church, in the new fellowship hall. Charlie B's will be catering. It is $8 per person. We will eat at 5 and then watch the movie "Fireproof" at 7.

Bible Study is Incredible

Just a quick word to let you know it's not too late to join the Knowing God by Name Bible study. It's an amazing group of women who continually bless me with their grace, their hearts and their really great discussions.

Tonight the discussion was around how can we be more reverent of God and to God. It's an amazing thought that we, as mere humans, can approach the throne of grace and God Almighty.

Jesus died so that we might have this chance to have a relationship with God! Think on that for a few moments. He is the creator of the universe. He is God Almighty! He is Holy and worthy to be praised.

Before the mountains were brought forth or ever You had formed the earch and the
world. Even from everlasting to everlasting. You are God. Ps 90:2

This week we talked about the names of deity, next week names of character. We will study five different names of God -- one of my favorite this week is Rachum Ve-Chanun, (Merciful and Gracious). His mercy is breathtaking and His grace amazing.

From His fullness we have recieved grace upon grace. John 1:16

Just like the song says, Amazing Grace!

NEW Bible Study -- Starting Wed,, Jan 14th

Hi all and you thought I'd forgotten about this blog, didn't you? I haven't. Just been overwhelmed, but I'm back and I'm ready to go!
Knowing God by Name: A Personal Encounter is incredible! I started it and have just been blown away by the richness of studying the character of God. That statement, the character of God, just feels wrong to me -- God is all things and His character is perfect and all good and holy and oh, so much much more than I could ever dream up and write. It's more than I can even speak -- I know! Me. Wordless. HUGE.

This study is just that -- HUGE. It's a very .... out-trospective study. Before you ask, that's the opposite of introspective. This study focuses on God and who HE is, not on me and who I am. I'm just a bit tired of looking at me, I need to look at who He is. The funny thing is I'm learning more about me as I study Him. I'm awestruck that this Holy and Magestic God would chose me (and you, too) to serve Him.

The more I look upon Him, the less I worry about me and all my issues, and you know I've got some issues (don't we all), and the more I just focus on God. Makes life seem to just go better.

I'm just so thrilled to get started in a couple of days. Get ready to have you socks rocked by this God that we serve.

I want to keep this blog up, but I think it would be great if we had a few more come alongside to blog with me. Any takers? Jeanette? How about some of you who are considering blogging but haven't tried it? It's a great way to get started.

Confidence in Christ

This week we are studying Ms Confidence and Ms Perfection -- sort of go hand in hand. Since I'm so far from Perfect I can't even consider that issue, let's talk confidence.

In what are you confident? Are you confident of your abilities to do the job you're called to do?
Does your confidence come from education, years of experience, or a combination of the two?

I'm confident of this -- God has work and a plan for your life!

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
Phil 1:6

This is where we find out confidence - in Christ Jesus. We are His children and therefore we are confident that He is Lord and Savior, Master and King. He is God.

Ladiies Night Out -- A Suceess .. OLA!!

Did I spell that right? OLA!

We had 11 head out for food, fun and fellowship! It was a blast for everyone. At one point I was seriously considering the art of scrapbooking. I'm so impressed that people have the patience for this craft. I'm just way to off the charts to do this, but Teri and Jennifer had me almost thinking I could do this.

Anyway, watch out for an announcement of a women's night out scrapbooking. I'm hoping to go, but I won't be scrapbooking. I'll just eat and talk -- the others can scrapbook.

We are finishing up No Other Gods and what an amazing blessing it has been! I pray that the Lord used this study in the lives of others, the way He's used it (and continues to use it daily) in my life.

What's next? I'm praying and asking for guidance. Suggestions are welcome!

For now, here's something fun and I think we should ask our choir to learn these dance steps. I just don't know who could pull off the solo part....

Great message -- Renewed mind is the key to the Christ in me. Trust me, you'll be singing this for a while. The dancing gets really good at about 2 min mark - so keep watching.

Week Six -- God of Gods

So here we are at week six -- this week we'll focus on God, not the idols that keep us from God. Nice change of pace.

Day one has a wonderful story about a guitar collector. This man had guitars that he'd never played, in fact, there were many guitars that he'd never seen -- he'd never even opened the case to take a peek. Can you imagine?

The author poses the question:

How many spiritual guitar cases do I have that I've never opened, much less
played?

The guitar collector had collected these treasures, but never enjoyed them.

We have God's Word at our fingertips -- do we open it and look for the treasure inside?

Find a treasure in scripture today --mine is Romans 8:1 -- Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

I'm opening this treasure today and I'm going to live it. There is no condemnation for me -- because I'm in Christ.

Tears in His Bottle

Tonight (Sunday) we talked a those times of scarcity -- when we look to God to provide our needs because only He can do it. Isn't that always the case? Sometimes I get caught up in the "I've got this thing handled" syndrome and then I get that little tap from the Holy Spirit -- and I remember -- I can do NOTHING without God.

Sure there are times when I think I can, but that's never true. God, in all His mercy, continues to bless me and allow me to prosper even when I'm foolish and hard-headed.

There was also another topic that popped up among us tonight -- those times of trial. The times when we just don't understand why we're going through this fire. And we want to know why?

There are times when we just cry our hearts out to the Lord and the tough times continue. I found a wonderful verse that just spoke to me about this.

You number my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle; Are they not in Your
book? Ps 56:8

Tears in His bottle -- God holds my tears. He knows the hurts we suffer. He knows where we wander in our searching. He has these all in His book.

I've known these truths for some time, but to see the tears in His bottle reference, just got me. He is such a big God, but my tear drops -- no matter how few, are so important to Him that He keeps up with each one. Amazing stuff. Amazing God. Amazing.

I want to share with y'all where I found this verse tonight -- it's at a blog that just makes me laugh out loud. You'll love this. The man who writes it attended Samford and he's always referencing the school and his time there. Take a look, rather a read...

Week Four -- People gods

Yikes -- this week is tough for me. People gods. How easy it is to get caught up in relationships? They are here, they are tangible and they give instant feedback.

In Galatians 1:10 Paul asks 'For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please people?"

That's the question of the week -- who do want to please? God or people?

I want to please God -- and I say that with all sincerity. I want to dance for an audience of One. I want to keep my eyes focused only on Him - no other. And that's what I must do -- keep my eyes, heart and spirit focused on Him.

Last week the song Slow Fade by Casting Crowns came up. I found the video -- and take a few minutes, watch and listen.

There's a message that goes along with what we're talking about in NOGs. Here is the chorus:

Okay, I had this really great idea of taking a picture of my super, technical method of the random drawing, but it's late and I'm tired. So, I'll just do a little description for you.

It's names written on little pieces of paper and tossed onto my desk. I close my eyes, swirl them around and pick. Yes, I know, super high-tech. Hey, I can blog, leave me alone.

So, after the swirling I picked a paper blob and opened it and the winner is ....

Fear -- What Do you fear?

Sunday night and Wednesday night we talked about fear and and we also learned to look beyond the fear at the object of our fear. What are you afraid of?
Are you afraid of losing control? Are you afraid if you let go something will fall apart? Do you believe that God is in control? Do you trust Him to handle it?

Fear is something that we all deal with at one time or another. Sometimes fear will catch us off guard, but it doesn't catch the Lord off guard. He knew the trials we would face and He's given us His word to draw on. One verse that comes to mind is

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,
but in all ways acknowledge Him and He will guide your path. Proverbs 3:5-6

In Christ we find the strength to face what we fear -- not the fear, but what we fear. In Christ, we find the hope that sustains us. Not the hope of the those who don't know the Lord, but the hope that is in Christ.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as your trust in Him, so that
you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

This is our hope -- hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. It's through the Holy Spirit that we can face the objects of our fear. And not just face it, but overcome this idol and live in victory. Live a life that is filled with joy and peace and overflowing with Hope.

This is my prayer for each of you! A life that is overflowing with Hope in Christ.

A Contest -- Yes, You can Win!

I bet you didn't know there would be giveaways on the blog! See, it's worth stopping by. You never know what might happen!

In the first day of week two, we are asked to revisit two words from week one:

Make Room

We have to make room in our lives for Jesus -- we have to become intentional about the time we spend wiht Him and we have to make this time a priority. But it's more than just making time for Him and making that time a priority, it's about understanding who He is and that He is the Lord Almighty.

Making room is about getting rid of the junk that clutters up our lives -- spiritually. We have to MAKE ROOM for Him. He deserves our best and not just a left over portion of our busy lives. Can you make room for him? Can you get rid of some of the clutter?

Let me just say .... whew! All this talk of cleaning up makes me nervous, but I'm a work in progress.

The contest is for a book and not just any book, but a devotional book that will help you along the way as you become more intentional about your walk with the Lord.

Week Two -- and more have joined us

Welcome to week two (for some it's almost over -- oops)

We've had several join us on this journey. I hope they'll post, but no pressure.... really.

The last line of the week two intro hit home with me --

"Be intentional about your time with God, and guard is from nasty printers, traffic violations, and weird people in the checkout line."

That's me -- no, not the weird person in the check out line, although some may argue this point. I need to be more intentional about my time -- and more on guard. I need to know how to prioritize my time and be more focused on the tasks at hand -- whatever they may be.

The first question of this week is:

What has kept you from the study this week?

What's your answer?

I'll go first:

Work -- how easy it is to put this before the Lord. A hard lesson for me this week.

Idols and Pharaohs -- The Same? or Different?

Jeanette posed a very good question and made a compelling statement:

"guess the way I took it was that our idol is something that we use to fill the
that "hole" only the one true God can fill or something that we are come close
to obsessing over, but our Pharaoh can be something that we allow to enslave us!"

I don't pretend to be the expert in this study -- I'm just the girl (yes, I'm using the term very loosely) with the loud voice at the front of the room.

When we allow an idol (functional god) to take first place in our life ( the place that is reserved for God Almighty) then are we obessed? Could be. Does this functional god enslave us? It can. Does it have to?

Week One - No Other Gods Bible Study

Welcome to Week one of No Other Gods --

How was the first day of study? Or the first few days?

Idols -- functional gods.

It's not easy to look at functional gods in our lives. At least, it's not for me. I'm NOT praticularly fond of looking at my own failings. I'd much rather believe that I've conquered all my functional gods - but that's just not the case. I'm still battling them daily and sometimes it's moment by moment, but I do know this -- I serve a God who's overcome death and He gives me the strength, power, and the wisdom to overcome these functional gods. Not in my strength, but in His.

What's up in the study this week:

Day two asks us to name our functional god -- the one that holds the most power over us-- and to write it down. Yes, write it down. If you want you can use code or write in shorthand or draw little pictures, but write it down -- with details. I know it's not easy, it wasn't for me, but try and do it (on page 18). And then go on through and list how this false god oppresses you.

I'm praying for you as you take this first step on the journey to confronting our modern day idols. God has so much more for us -- so much more than we have today, there's a life of incredible freedom just ahead.

I'm praying that you'll find the time to read, study, ponder, pray, and just enjoy God's Word and His Holy Presence this week. I can't wait to hear how things are going.... in fact, you can make a comment if you like.

This is an amazing study that will convict and inspire you. It's filled with those "oh my" revelations -- at least it was for me.

I picked this book up several months and planned just to read through it to get an idea of the style. I feel headlong into the study -- and I loved it. God revealed so much to me through the pages of this book and the study of His Word.

I just know that God has a purpose for this study among the women of Union Hill.
